Position overview:

This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic, creative digital publishing team that delivers super-engaging, highest-quality content to kids and teachers. The Assistant Editor, Online reports to the Editorial Director and is a key member of the Online team, working closely with the Online editors, Executive Producer, the Art/Design team, the Production team, and the Maga
zine editors, to support the timely development, production, and publishing of digital content for Scholastic Classroom Magazines, publisher of 20 magazines for students in pre-K–12.

Specific responsibilities include:

Producing content updates for Classroom Magazine websites, including sites for individual magazines plus our daily Top News story, using CMS, HTML, XML
Recording and editing audio as assigned for audio assets across all sites (read-alouds, slide shows, videos) using ProTools, Audacity and CMS
Supporting the Editorial Director and online staff with admin and production tasks as needed
Supporting daily Top Story editorial process as needed, including story planning and research, photo selection, trafficking of assets, writing captions; plus writing news articles to grade level
Delivering Magazine content to Scholastic.com Teacher site or other web divisions as needed
Adhering to production schedules and meeting internal deadlines to ensure that digital publishing deadlines are met

Required:

  • A college degree
  • Strong technical skills to carry out the web and audio production duties.
  • High level of motivation to grow skills through hands-on experience and on-the-job training.
  • The abilities to write and edit, take direction, meet deadlines, and work as a team player within the Online department and across departments (Editorial, Art, Production) to help produce digital educational content of the highest quality.
  • One to two years’ professional experience in digital publishing is desirable, with experience in teaching, educational publishing, or working on products for children a plus.

ProTools, Adobe Creative Suite (PhotoShop/Dreamweaver/Acrobat), AfterEffects, Audacity, basic H
